My PC pancake compressor suddenly stopped compressing. I brought it to the local tool place, and they said its too expensive to repair. Trash it. So, I got a new one.
On a whim, though, I unscrewed the casing, and found just a broken belt (Dayco AC-0815). Quick Google search shows these are $10-12 online. So, back to the tool place, to ask them for the replacement belt. Tool place said “still not worth it — you’ll be luck to get the belt on, and the timing won’t be right anyway” and they don’t stock the belt.
So, two questions if anyone knows —
1) can I replace the belt on the porter cable pancake compressor and be ok? and
2) are there any tool parts places on line you can recommend as safe? I can’t find a local source, so I’ve got to get it on-line. I’ve found ereplacementparts.com and toolpartsdirect.com and dewaltservicenet.com. Any experience with these?

Of course. You have the replacement compressor. ;-)
I'm confused.
You have the perfect opportunity to ditch the most hated compressor on the planet and now you're going to fix it???

It's only about money. If I can spend $20 and extend the life, then I'll do it. I'm so cheap.I do light work, so it's OK for me. Why is it so hated? Mine has lasted 7 years of light duty work, although it's a bit noisier I think than others.
Hey, I'm just kidding. Mine drove me so crazy with the noise I got another. But I use mine 40+ hrs a week."Perfect is the enemy of Good." Morrison
The noise is a lot. I ordered a belt from ereplacementparts.com (here's hoping my Visa doesn't end up stolen). If I can repair it, maybe I'll keep the new one, and craigslist the pancake, to get a little money back on it.
