A client complained about spalling brick near the bottom of two walls which get a lot of splash from her driveway. The brick are wire cut and the spalling consists of the surface of the brick to a depth of one half inch to an inch and a half. I had thought of removing the face of all of the spalled brick to a depth of an inch and a half and using cement or thin set insert thin brick which I believe are an inch or so thick. My concern is will the thin brick bond with the existing brick? Masonry experts may tell me that I must remove the spalled brick entirely and replace them with new ones but I want to avoid such a drastic measure since some areas are four to six feet in length. I realize I could do a section of a time to prevent the brick from collapsing. I believe I could remove up to four feet or so of brick without this possibility occurring. I want to do the least intrusive repair as possible and if any of you out there have dealt with this problem please let me know. Thanks.

Last year I glued the spalled brick on a house back in place (all the pieces were still there) with epoxy--haven't checked to see if it held, but have had no complaints. They had removed the end of their downspout so water ran down the brick and when it froze it popped the faces off. (I replaced the downspout too.)
Uhhhhhh...I think you'd do better if you posted this where it belongs, not under Breaktime Fests.

Well then Andy tell me where my post belongs?
"Construction Techniques" seems more appropriate then under the heading "Breaktime Fests" which is where I see it now.The secret of Zen in two words is, "Not always so"!

I dont think he's raggin on ya, just letting you know that you'll get more responses if your query is in the "construction tech" area.
