Replace cantilevered deck joists and deck
I about to contract a deck replacement for rotting cantilevered deck joists. In northern CA this is a classic disfunctional design, usually used on hills where it was prohibitive to post up great heights. Typically wind and weather can run up the hill. I am proposing to remove the existing cantilevered joists even with the face of wall framing, attach a ledger with z-flash above and below and post up from below to support the outside edge of the deck. I don’t like sistering joists or any other wood outside because it traps moisture. The main problem is getting an effective seal at the ledger, especially below doors installed with fins, or any other door for that matter. Does anybody have further suggestions or sage advice for getting good weather protection?
Thanks

No advice, but it sounds like you're on the right track.
