Has anyone ever installed replacement windows from the outside of the house (removing the outside stops) instead of removing the sash trim and installing from the inside. If so do you think it is easier, cleaner or faster? Any other installation techniques you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

From the outside is the only way we do it here if were leaving the sash.
Most times you can leave the parting stop in place and slide the unit up to it, after a bead of caulk. then trim out at the exterior with a quarter round or base shoe. Be sure to lay some insulation within the new replacement windows frame if metal,(doesn't hurt).
If the new unit is to wide to do this simply remove the parting stop and slide in as much as you need.
This is done from the outside here because it keeps the workers out of the house as much as possible. And keeps the HO from moving much furniture.
A typical time for me to remove and install ready for paint with both feet on the ground window is about 45 minutes each average.
