I am in the process of purchasing a 12″ sliding compound miter saw but my radial arm saw has just died. Before I go to the expense of repairing/ replacing it I thought I would try and kill two birds with one stone. Does anyone know of a 12″ sliding compound miter saw that will accept a stack dado?
Thanks

AFAIK the SCMS is designed specifically arbor wise to NOT accept any dados..think about it. It would be amputation city, the head is NOT solidly traveling a rail and the spring up action ( as well as down) is asking for a wild ride.
RAS are running at 3475 rpm ( or there abouts) and SCMS are faster I do believe..another issue of chip load and self feed vs. stalling..fast speed generally means less HP.
Rebuild the RAS. Trust me.

First, welcome to BreakTime.
Second, Sphere gave you sound advice.
If you have ever had that stacked dado set do a climb cut on the RAS, think how much quicker and nastier it would be on a SCMS.
Thanks guys - guess I'd better take out a second morgage
Sphere is right about the dado on the slider. But save the mortgage money. You can probably pick up a pretty nice, old RAS for beer money -- most folks don't know their true value -- probably because they never really learned how to set them up an use them properly.
(Shhh. Don't tell 'em or the prices will skyrocket. My RAS is an indispensable tool in my shop and I'd hate to have to pay Festool prices if I ever have to replace it!)
