I am finishing up a job that I have been on for the last six months. The interior designer has added some heavy door hinges on some double doors that are twice as thick as the regular hinges. This is after the doors have been set for months we are finishing up the lock sets when I found this out. After I have remortise the hinges deeper to make them flush the doors are hinge bound when we shut the doors they are tight against the jambs and then they spring open. Should I have just installed the new hinges without remortising the depth ? The doors where fine before the hinge change. I have done one set of doors I have two more to go they are the eight footers. The boss is no help on this one I am in need of some help. Thank you for any information or tips . TYoung

Sounds like the hinges need to be "adjusted" a little.
TYoung,
Hinges should not be set flush, should be proud. Shim them a strong 1/16 and see what happens. Look at the other doors to see how much hinge is showing. Or you could do a Katz.

You've over compensated for the thickness of the hinge. Try just removing "one" hinge at a time until you get a feel for how deep to set them. You can always take out more material but it's hard to put it back in. The one you've already set try to shim the hinge out with the hinge box paper, it's heavy and pretty tough.
Hope this gets you swingin! Trimslim
