Replacing old Nutone IMA-406 Intercom
We have a Nutone IMA-406 intercom system (circa 1978). It no longer works. Is there a replacement intercom that can use the same wiring for our home?

I'd recommend contacting a local dealer. There may be someone there old enough to know. Nutone has some screwy wiring that I was told that you have to use theirs or it will not work. I believe my mom's circa 1977 uses different wiring than mine circa 2003 (3 wire IIRC). My mom did send hers out for repair a couple of years ago, so that may be an option.
Good luck,
John

Thanks for the info...I will follow-up.
Try Wilmar.com. They sell to apartment complexes and might have what you are looking for.
sm,
I think I have a complete one of those intercoms, new in boxes. I cannot check until Monday but will let you know if I do. The one I have has the radio in the main station ?

Does your main unit also have a CD?
No CD, just AM/FM ... probably the same thing that you have now.Bill Koustenis

I was hoping to upgrade to a newer unit with a CD player. Thank you for your offer.
We looked into the same idea a few years back when we were remodeling and found out that the new system w/CD would not work with the wiring and speaker configuation that was in the old system.
We decided to invest in a wireless stereo speaker component system.

Hmmm...What system did you finally end up using and how do you like it?
We mixed several mfgs components to make a system. then.......But......
Todays available products are vastly advanced from our install in 1997. I see stuff at the audio visual "big boxes" that is amazing.

I upgraded the older model IMA303 Nutone intercome in my Mother's new house--successfully. I contacted Central Vacuum Stores at https://www.centralvacuumstores.com/nutone_int.htm for guidance on performing the upgrade. I was very pleased with the results. There were some of the old speaker frames that needed to be chisled out or sawn in two with a hacksaw blade. You can call them at 800-221-8227 for personal guidance and selection of the elements that you will need. You may not be able to upgrade to the latest, full-featured intercom simply due to the limits of the original wiring.
Good luck.
Terry
Thanks. I will contact them for more info.
