I currently in the process of purchasing a home. Yesterday I went through the house with my Home Inspector and upon inspection of the sub-area, we realized that the structure is supported by steel jacks. Unfortunately many of the jacks have deteriorated over time because the sub area was exposed to water on several occasions. I am currently having an engineer provide me a bid for replacing the jacks and creating proper drainage for the area. However I wondered if replacing the support jacks it something I could do myself? What steps would I take to replace the jacks? How much effort should I put into leveling the structure(it isn’t too bad now and I’m afraid I might cause damage if I try to do too much)? Finally, the house is in California, so I need to make sure it is Earthquake stable! Thanks in advance!
