Anyone got any advice on residential saunas? Might be in the market for one but have no clue of what details to look for or brands/features to avoid.
TIA

Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

What do you mean by getting a sauna? A pre-built kit?
First choice is what type. They now have radiant heat saunas that don't involve throwing water on rocks. Personally, I am a traditionalist, and if you don't throw water on the rocks,it ain't a sauna. But that's just me. I like a lot of rocks on my stove.
There are any number of manufacturers of sauna heaters. I have owned a Finnleo, which is a good brand. Also a Polar, which is a cheap brand. I had to extend the rock box, and now it is OK, but I wouldn't buy another one. But really, it's just a heating element, some rocks, and some controls.
All the heater manufacturers provide instructions on how to build a sauna with their heaters. I like hot saunas, so I have learned on building two of them for myself that you need to oversize the heater a bit (that is, don't get one JUST big enough per the manufacturers instructions).
If this is going to be a room in your house, and you are going with a traditional sauna, make sure it is well insulated and you have an excellent vapor barrier. It should also have a vent fan.
I'm probably leaning towards a kit as opposed to all custom. Not sure I have a preference on rocks Vs radiant.
Could you better define SPA? Not tryin to be a dink, but alot of people call hot tubs spas. Are you talking about a dry sauna?
Spa? who said spa? :) know anything about Saunas? I think in old times they called them steam rooms?
Okay, but you reinforce my point. I thought you were talking about the dry sauna with the hot rocks, now you're talking about tiled steam rooms.
You're right I meant to say Sauna. I must have gapped with the SPA thing. (damn democrats)
