I am looking to add on to my ranch style house…possibly going up. I have searched the web with little reward. Can anyone recommend a good resource for looking at what other people have done with ranch houses? Thanks in advance.

Beth, I love this book and it gave me lots of good ideas for my little hut. You could probably get it at the library, too, if you don't want to buy it.
*Ranches can look pretty good with a second story. Shouldn't be hard to find a designer/ builder to give you a bunch of options. Just a box on top, with a little overhang in the front and a gable roof looks great. If the front is brick, wood siding above works well too.After my sisters place burned, they put a second story, ran wood tone vinyl on the addition, put vertical wood siding around the enrty/porch area, and kept the brick everywhere else. Nicest looking house on a street of one story ranches! Jeff
*Beth - Does you house have a hip roof ?I've been stumped on pleasing options for expanding our L-shaped hip roof ranch.I'm having a hard time visualizing raising a second story on top of a hip roof.(We want to extend out one end at 45-degree angle.)Posted a msg suggesting an article but no response from the editors.
*A 45 degree angle?

Allan;
Just loose the hips, it is no big thing to convert to a gable.
