I am looking for the best way to resurface my front entryway (5×18)and steps (3). Currently the surface is stamped concrete, very poorly done, with excessive and uneven slope away from the house. I would like to resurface with stone correcting the slope problem at the same time. My thinking is to pour a substrate (1″ to 2″ thick) to fix the slope and then lay the stone. Any ideas on which product to use? Your comments, concerns, and ideas are needed.

Hi Rick- Thin bases of mud are not usually strong bases and can break up under stress. Don't know what part of the country you are from, but in new england weather, freeze/thaw can add to the stress.
There is a company called A.H.Harris in New Britain CT which specializes in concrete products. Check with someone like that for the best product, might also ask about fastening a wire mesh sheet onto the old surface like that used for tile to bind the work together.
Also saw a tile job done on a front entry recently, looked good, remember to seal and periodically reseal whatever you put down.
