Reviews and Comments on Paint Sprayers?
I’ve been holding off on purchasing an airless paint sprayer long enough that the amount I’ve spent renting one could have bought one by now. I don’t do too much painting (mostly interior, probably 1 – 2 full houses a year), but enough to justify owning a sprayer.
It’s time to take the plunge, but too many choices out there to wade through. Any suggestions on type, price range (I’m thinking in the area of $500), make, etc.?

What matters with the airless sprayers is what tip size they will handle. For most of the latex paint, you need a .19 tip and that means going quite a bit over your $500 budget. The painters in my area use Titan 440's and graco 390 and 395's. Those sprayers will run toward $1000.
On the tip . . . you'll end up with a range of switch tips in varying sizes. Just for example, I shoot ceilings with a 517, trim with a 310, surfacer with a 523, . . . I have and use everything in between, and even have a 635 for block filler.
I think you're really throwing your money down the drain with anything that comes out of the selection at a box store. The two tried and true, good quality pumps at the bottom of the price ladder are the Titan 440 and the Graco 395. They're very similar, will do the same jobs. It will probably really boil down to who's having the better incentives running when you buy it. The only thing I dont like about the 440 is the filter is harder to get to than the Graco. Not much of an issue really, and probably the only significant difference in the two.
While you're spending money, throw another 30 bucks at a whip for the end. This is a short, 3-5 ft flexible section of hose that will make your ability to control the gun much better and your fatigue level during extended jobs much less.
