Does anybody know what the purpose is of these 3.5 inch pieces of wood in between my roof rafters at the ridge? They were removed to make the new ridge vents work? Is this going to affect the structural integrity of my home. The rafters are joined together by screws and bolts. Thanks for any information. My home was built in 1963

They are there to hold the rafters together. Why would they need to be removed?
The rafters are actually screwed and bolted together. This piece of wood is above the screw and the rafters are actually not nailed to them.
That is how the rafters that are screwed together look like after they removed the wooden blocks.
