I am going to go take a look. Ive seen pretty good reviews on the Ridgid planer so far.
They have a lot of good tools. I can't comment personally on that one, but this is not a case where the HD association bothers me.

I was looking through the reviews on the older Ridgid planer and saw Johns unanswered post. I think poor John must have broken a mirror, and after waiting 7 years he deserves an answer. Unfortunatley the planer he was reffering to has been discontinued, and replaced with a newer 3 knive model. A local HD had a floor model of the discontinued TP 1300 for $229 and although it looked new, it said reconditioned on it. Because it was missing the base and the dust chute, they said I could have it for $179. I did a little haggling and they also threw in a new extra set of knives, ($35). So I wound up picking it up yesterday and the missing stand is no big deal, I can rig up a stand or horses for it. The dust chute is available on ebay for $12.99 + $6 shipping. I dont do much planing, and probably wont use it all that much so this will suit my needs. I needed something portable, and although this is no lightweight, it is easier to move than the D-walt, and about 1/3 the cost. HD also had the Ryobi, but not on display. Thats ok, I read somewhere that friends dont let friends buy Ryobi. :0)
Probably better than the bone knives and sharpened sticks I was using then.
