Hi everyone!
I was wondering about the best method for mounting Roof Balustrades, like the one on Jefferson’s Monticello. I’m concerned about roof leaks and water damage. I was planning on using Polyurathane Balustrades for their resistence to rot. Has anyone had any experience or done a job similar to this? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Time, time, time look what's become of us..Time is all we have, spend it wisely with fervor..dance for no reason, love with out plans and live without worries..we all can.
The plans call for a 1/12 but I was thinking of increasing the slope to 3/12. I figure the Balustrade is going to hide it.
I was either going to use EPMD rubber like they use on commercial jobs or some type of metal roofing. I'm open to sugessions on that.
What I normally do is: fabricate wooden blocks that will fit inside the posts. Attach them to the roof (I use this method with copper roofs) and wrap the blocks with copper. Solder the seams and slip the posts over the blocks. This method could be adapted to other roof materials, especially EPDM.Hey Mister Sushi, you forgot to cook my fish.

Must be the time of year I guess. I wrote this post back in June of 2002 on the topic. Recreate decrotive railing on flat roof.. Feel free to ask any further questions you may have.
