I have a deck to build over a rubber roof. There is a slight pitch to the roof but not enough room to support the structure above the rubber. Each joist will have to be ripped at a taper and rest directly on the surface or have intermediate blocks or shim supports along it’s length. Anyone ever done one like this or know of mfgs.recomendations??

How much room have you got available in the elevation? I've answered this Q so often I'm considering doing a drawing to post and save time.

OK, Here we go for ya. You don't say how much pitch but I just go with 2x4 sleepers lay flat. That spreads the wieght to avoid roof membrane damage. In the atachment, the layers shown from bottom up:
Plywood - brown
EPDM membrane glued - blue
EPDM slips tacked in place with proper caulk bead prevent friction from wearing the roof through - purple
PT 2x4s for sleepers - green or course ;-) @ 16"oc tacked down with the caulk
Fir or IPE' decking - brown 3/4"
If you want the decking to run the other way, just rout some drainage slots in the bottom of the sleepers and rotate it all..
This shows as a cutaway schematic. Edge trim details will vary. If you were to try having it perfectly level, you'd have some ripping to do.
