I noticed a lot of daylight coming in through the end of the ridge vent on one end of my house. The other end does not have any light coming in. From inside the attic I checked the end of the vent and it seemed to be completely open to the outside. I don’t know if there ever was an end cap but it seems like there should be something covering or plugging the opening to prevent critters or wind blown rain from coming in. I don’t know the brand of the ridge vent. The ridge vent was installed a few years ago when the entire roof was replace and I haven’t seen signs of water intrusion. Find an end cap or stuff the opening with the black spongy stuff that I have seen on other ride vents?
Thank You

The purpose of a vent is, of course, to be "open", so it would not be unusual to be able to see some daylight through it. But the opening should be screened somehow, and generally arranged to prevent rain from blowing in.
If it is indeed completely open there would be no great harm in stuffing pretty much anything in there to block it -- the loss of the venting effect through the last half foot or so of vent would be negligable.
(You may have discovered the origin of that odd-shaped piece of plastic you found behind the shrubs last year.)
I used an inspection camera with the flexible tubing and I had an unobstructed view of the neighborhood when I extended it toward the open end of the ridge vent. I organized a search party but didn't find anything resembling an end cap/plug.....maybe the lawn mower found it first.
