Guess my first post didn’t take, so i’ll try again.
I came across this tract where all the roofs have been ringed with safety rails.
I’ve never seen this before ! I’m in San Diego.
Do they do this in other parts of the country ?
Boy, I bet this reduces their liability ! It sure would make me a little more comfortable working up on those roofs.

I've never seen it here, but I like it.

Those are slick.

Looks like overkill. those roofs look like a 5 pitch at best. I could ride a bicycle around them without any worry.

I agree, looks like osha gone mad. BUT, as to the bicycle part we just finished tear-off & redeck on a 12/12 and as I was talking to a safety guy, he told me that more roofers are killed on flat roofs than 5/12's, more killed on 5/12's than 12/12's...
walkers breed complacency. flat roofs people walk off the sides. steep pitches everyone knows are dangerous.

The solution I use on my 27/12 pitch roof is to only work from a work platform.
If a drop a tool or a shingle I just bend over and pick it up. the guard rails keep me from falling of the sides or back and the increase in productivity more than offset their cost..
I can get a 16 foot wide platform (4 foot deep) that allows me to really fly when putting up shakes and stuff. that plus not having to hump them up ladders and such makes it a real no brainer..
We just started to sell a carriage that swings 90 degree so we no longer need to have so much room to get in and manuver.
If I have about 5 feet I can reach as far as 50 feet from the front of the building with that system.. great for putting siding up and windows in too!
Sounds good. Any pictures?
Thanks,

you asked frenchy to post pictures lmao...
that'll be the day, the poor guy is picture posting challanged.

I sure would like to know more about that also.
thanks
Ah, yes. But you're in the equipment business. For an ordinary poor guy like me, what would that cost? I'd love to have one for gutter and roof work.
