Hi all. I’ve built on a new 7’x12″ laundry room and am “weaving” the new shingles into the old. Paper is down and I’ve carefully pulled a diagonal section of old shingles so that the new ones can weave in underneath the old and provide good coverage. Here’s my question – in pulling old shingles loose I naturally had to break the self-sealing bond. I am skeptical that they will re-seal on their own – what’s the proper product to lay down to reseal these tabs? Any other sage words? Thanks.

OK, no, it's not the world's narrowest laundry room - it's 7'x12'!
You can use a number of sealants from a caulking tube. We use Geocell 2300 elastomeric caulking, but ordinary Black Jack (roof cement)will work fine.
After you're done, just go back and put a couple of generous dabs under each tab, being careful that when you push the tab down the sealant doesn't squeeze out and mess up the shingle below.
