Venting skylights have a small vent at the top independent of the glazing. Can be used in lieu of a fart fan in a lot of jurisdictions.
Operable skylights allow the glazing to open a few inches.
Roof windows typically open enough to allow egress.

Ah!Thanks. I was under the impression that a roof window and an operable skylight were the same.
check out Velux they have brochures describing the various models
thats how i decided on mine
