Roofing in cooler weather:
With cooler weather here, I’d like to remind others that pneumatic air guns are not kind to cold shingles. Indeed, they were not desinged for coldweather applications. But we have to get out work done, right!
Consider depressing the gun head and firing each nail with a click of the trigger. This works provided the gun is held down securely. Holding the gun securely in place on top of the shingle serves to keep nail heads from standing proud or worse, shattering the shingle. This is especially true for laminated shingles.
What’s more, I believe we builders/roofers need to slow down. In the rush to secure a living wage we run the risk of poorly installed roofs. It’s incredible to believe some of the “junk work” I encounter. We can all do better!
