I need to put a new roof on and I am looking to put on a metal roof. It needs to be done very soon. My question is, I want to put a farmers porch on my house in couple years. Will that be difficult to tie in if I put a metal roof on? Or am I just better off doing shingles? Thanks
Thanks Greg in Maine

I'll give you a no-answer answer (called a "bump") to move your question up the list so others may reply.
Edit: In thinking a little more about it, why couldn't you put a temporary roof on and plan to put metal over it in a couple years? Problem is, I don't know what is cheap, but will be a good underlayment for metal and will provide protection in meantime for two years. Was thinking water and ice shield (self-adhering bituthene), but don't know how it would hold up to UV over that amount of time. Maybe just roll roofing would work. Half lap it. It will look ugly, but it is fairly cheap and will be an adequate underlayment for metal and will last two years and then go right over it with the metal when you are ready.

The answer is - it depends..
A metal roof is not right for every house to begin with. What are your reasons for leaning that way?
Can you post a photo of your house/roof?
