I have a faint memory of reading about a “box” to use when hand nailing roofing, that sorts and aligns the nails so that they all vertical when you grab for them. I remember laughing about its usefulness with roofing nail guns but now i’m getting into slate. So any pointers on where to get one or even what it’s called etc would be great.

I recall cedar shake applicators using these. Looks like a bread pan and hangs around your neck. There is a slot with rubber lips long-wise in center of bottom of pan. The nails hang down through the slot and you pull the heads through the rubber lips.
Called it a nail spitter. Don't know where to get one, maybe cedar roof suppliers?
I was watchin an episode of "Ask This Old House" a couple of weeks ago. Tom Silva had an antique-looking contraption that would be perfect for you.It looked a bit like a mud-texturing gun, but it had no connections for an air hose. Fill the hopper with roofing nails, and this thing presented them at the end of the nozzle (best term I can think of). And they were presented in such a way that you held the nozzle in place and tapped the nailhead to start the nail. Then you pulled the device away and sent the nail home.Although it looked like it would jam frequently, I thought it was a very useful invention, for those without access to pneumatics.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
Never had one, myself. I have seen guys use them, but I was as good fingering nails as they were stripping them.

Yeah man, I really missed going. Only the second major Fest I couldn't attend. The first we had serious health issues in the house, this one our youngest got married. Sure hope to attend the next one - can't expect you to defend my good name again!Diesel? Rez? Gunner? Calvin? Andy Clifford? Jeff Buck? Pete Draganic? Any of them make it?Huck said it first. I just agreed with him.

Hey Vince - We'll have to take an extra long ride together next time, huh? We'll have two years of things to catch up with. Any chance you'll get down to Texas in February? Huck said it first. I just agreed with him.
