The other day, my Bostitch roofing nailer misfired. I looked at it and saw that the piston was in the down position. I couldn’t push it up. I unhooked the hose and then it pushed up and locked into place.
I hooked the hose back up and the gun immediately fired. Fortunately, it wasn’t pointed at me (or anyone else)!!!
I tried the procedure again…unhook the hose, push the piston back up, hook the hose up making sure I wasn’t pulling on the trigger and nothing was against the nose and that it was pointed in a safe direction.
It fired as soon as the hose was engaged.
I put it away and finished the job nailing by hand.
Is this a bad O ring?? Can I fix it?? Maybe a kit from an internet source??
Or…..?????

When the valve on my stapler went, i replaced it for $21.60 with the part available at my local tool shop. Apparently that valve is used on a whole lot of Bostitch air guns. Air was hissing out of it, though, so the symptoms are not like yours. I found schematics online at Bostitch when i was trying to suss mine out. Sorry...all i know.
I have took apart and cleand the trigger kit, can't buy them locally here but they stick at times. Firing when hooked up sounds like the safety is stuck.
If it's like my bostitch coil framing nailer, you can take apart the trigger valve (it slides right out after you take out the trigger, held in with a rolled pin). I'd see if there's an o-ring in there that has bitten the dust, or if it's all gunked up.
