I have a problem that I coukld use some help with. Found mold in walls from long ago waterleak and had it professionally removed. Fixed water problem but now have a rotted top plate piece 8in in lenght and goes almost all the way through the plate . This top place is rught below a second floor joist. The joist is not rotted nor sagging. Could I just put a temp. wall on that floor joist and cut out rotted top plate and put new one in with king and jack studs. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

The joist in question
Does it connect to a rim joist that runs along that wall? If so, a joist hanger would probably suffice unless the load on it is pretty darn big.
You can still replace the plate that's bad, and put a full block flat and below it -in between the studs on either side.
Nail up one more block at each end of that to each stud. I'm assuming you've got a bit of ceiling open and probably some of the wall below that.
Post a picture of the situation and tell us what's above ( besides the joist) that bad plate.
just what Calvin said should do it
;D
Jim-I'm unsure
what that big smiley thing indicates.
Don't agree that a joist hanger or blocked ledger is the way to go?
Oh sorry I agree with you wholeheartedly
I trfed to post without a mesage in the big box. The system would not allow that behavior so I put a winky smile in there.
And I am sorry I mis-interpreted that damn smile thing.
