Looking for some ideas here. I am dealing with a three story home that has a hip roof. The problem started when we took off old siding to replace it. There is a small intersecting roof that comes in just above the second floor. The flashing was not done correctly and has allowed water to run down/in the siding thus causing about a 4 foot wide section of rot from the middle of the second floor to the foundation wall. This includes a 6 foot section of sill plate and a 5 foot section of rim joist. The joists are running parallel with the rotten rim joist, there is also some ply rot on the first floor but just a small section and the other side of that wall is kitchen cabinets. Picking up this load does not seem as easy as if the joist were running the other way not to mention the rim joist scenario and cabinets. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I done something similar to this once 'cept it was a single story house. The rim joist and sills were rotten for about 8'. The floor joist were running parallel with this rim.
Basically we stripped the siding up and sandwiched two 2x12's together on the outside and predrilled and lag bolted them to the side of the house. If there is any insulation board you will need to remove that first so you can get your 2x12's tight to the wall.
Make sure you hit the studs on all bolts. I think we used 1/2" bolts.( watch out for wiring, plumbing)
We then nailed a 2x4 under the bottom of the 2x12's and set up a series of jacks on cribbing. Jack it up just enough to relieve the load and saw out what is bad and replace...We had to do this from the crawl space. We did not have to replace any studs.
This set up was'nt perfect but it did work and we even ended up with no drywall cracks to fix. I am glad there was no tile to worry about.Whole job start to finish took two men less than a day.
Maybe this will give you some ideas.
