Has anyone ever used a router on slate tile or slab? I would like to do a slate countertop and give the tile edges more of a bevel, and have it end up smooth.
I figure I could probably use a belt sander, but it got me wondering if carbide router bits would work. I know they work on soapstone, but I suppose that’s less abrasive. This is 1/4″ honed slate tile.

Sounds like a job for a diamond disk to me, but I haven't tried it myself.

No, I tried it once and was really, really sorry.
Diamond is the way.

Thanks- that's what I needed to know, and what I expected. Those diamond profile bits are $300-600! I think I'll freehand with a diamond grinder and a belt sander.
