I feel like I found the Holy Grail… after 6 weeks, three phone calls and rediculous amounts of BS I finallyyyyyyyy got a Home Depot “Worksite CD”. God only knows why they don’t throw these things at you like AOL does because they are great! Apparently they have been greatly improved from the earlier versions. It downloads the prices for almost everything they stock from my nearest store, lets me order online or via fax directly to the store, helps with estimating, has a great index etc etc. Highly recommend FWIW…

Few people understand it. Nobody agrees what it is, how to learn about it, or who's responsible for it. It has never been more important

How did they upgrade it? The last version I used was more frustrating than actually going to Home Depot. The prices were nice to have but it seemed very hard to find specific product (type in 2x4, and 12 choices came up and none were what I was looking for. Apparently they dont call things what I call them).
My expierence with the CD was exactly the same as yours. At the time, they were handing them out at the store. Hope they did upgrade it, but really, as far as I'm concerned, the Big Box stores don't consider professionals a significant part of their target customer base. Found this out years ago when "the help" was too busy cutting a board in half for "a target customer" to make time to sell me 12k worth of windows. The big boxes do have their use though, and these days the self service cycle is being completed via their automated check outs. Matt
We can't get the upgrade in Canada for some reason. Doesn't matter, though.
Can't find prices for the pressure treated stuff on the cd. What do they think we use out here in the rain for xterior stuff?
Another great item of service from Home Depot.

Aaron,
Talking to local Home Hardware franchise owner at annual contractor appreciation night last week. Home Depot is likely to come to town in the next 12 months. HH guy says their overall corporate experience in this scenario is for a loss of 25% volume immediately, but all that regained in 2 yrs. Says a lot for Home Depot service...
WallyLignum est bonum.
As far as getting one, I called Craftsman Books (the publisher) twice at 760-438-3254, they say it takes six weeks to get one (amazing). I finally got a call from my buddy at HD who put one aside for me. It's a snap to find things on it, I'm very impressed. Apparently it has every SKU except for plants and flooring samples. Also exports and imports from other programs and supports an estimating program, although I haven't gotten into that myself. Pester your local HD Pro Desk, it's worth it IMHO.
Great!
Now all the unorganized unskilled DIY types can have Micro$oft AND Home cheapo help them do building right.
From the comfort of thier own home!

I can't afford to be affordable anymore
Thanks to this thread, I recently got a Home Depot Worksite CD. (My wife works there, so for me it was easy to get one). I just used it to figure out materail costs on a suspended ceiling. It was a HUGE time saver since I didn't have to go to the store with paper and pencil to record prices.
I don't trust the time estimates (every job is different), but at least it gives you a starting point.
For those of you with a PC (as if anyone reading this doesn't have one) that shop at HD, I highly recommend it.
A picture of the CD is attached in case the folks at the pro desk don't know what you're talking about.
