Does anyone know about salt/potassium free water softeners? These are the claims of one manufacturer (Pelican). It is less expensive than a sodium chloride system. Too good to be true??

You mean they didn't claim it makes lunches, free?
There are some very good filtration systems used in industry that use resin beds. The replaceable elements are very expensive, but I have yet to see one the selectively allows 'good minerals' to pass through while stopping the 'bad minerals'.
The ten year warranty is great, since most web sites I've looked at state they don't last that long. Sort of like the warranty on a Fiat. Why would you want this, since conventional water softeners don't provide any risk to humankind?
There is one brand that plausibly softens water without salt (and potassium chloride is salt). It mixes in air with a catylist, requires a drain, and would most certainly produce a pressure drop. None of the magnetic units work. Any unit which doesn't require a drain can't possibly work.
I've Googled Pelican and IMO it's totally bogus. I'm surprised they get away with it, and some state AG will certainly be going after them pretty soon.
