We have a hugh pile of maple flooring that we salvaged from an old school. Our problem is, how do we remove the old wax and dirt that is built up in the tongue and groove? It’s hard as a rock and dulls jointer knives instantly! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Kevin

Kevin,
What is the face width and thickness? Also, isn't it a thickness planer and shaper with carbide cutters what you need, not a jointer? Maybe a thickness sander, with the amount of abrasive particle that is probably imbedded in the surface.

*It isn't the face that I'm trying to strip, it's the edge above the tongue where the wax and dirt is built up. thanks
*If the groove is deeper than the tongue.....you could set up a router with a fence and use a good bit to take a 1/32 or so off.
*Cut off the old tongue(or part of it) on the TS and re cut the tongue with a carbide shaper cutter. Same for the groove if you can't find a cutter that matches the old pattern.
*I also cleaned up some salvaged 33/32 maple flooring. I built myself a jig to hold the pieces on edge and used a belt sander with medium grit (100 grit) sandpaper. I cleaned nearly 900 sqft in this manner. It was installed in my upstairs bedroom and turned out great. There were some 14' lengths with birds eye figure. I wouldn't even want to think what the cost would be for similar new.
