Still working on finishing my basement. This time I’m working in the bathroom. I installed the vanity cabinet and placed the cultured marble top on it. The top doesn’t sit square, partly because the corner is not 90 degrees but also because the top is not exactly square. Is it OK to sand cultured marble? I think if I could take a bit off the rear corner it would fit better along one side.

Sure is, James. I've taken a belt sander to more cultured marble tops than I care to remember.
Use a pretty coarse grit and try to make sure you are running the belt towards the unfinished side to avoid chipout of the glossy surface.
And wear a dustmask if you have one. They'll be mounds of powdery white fiberglass dust to clog your nostrils with.

*Hey James,Here's a trick that we use a lot.If a side wall, or the top itself is not square, set the top in place right where you want it (one side will be off, maybe at the front, back, or wherever)With the top sitting in place, take a pencil and trace around the top and front edge of the offending edge. Now take a utility knife, and VERY carefully cut out the shape of the edge of the cutltured marble top. Since the drywall is usually 1/2" thick, you have just allowed yourself 1/2" more room to work with. Now slide the top over until the edge is sitting in the cutout. Caulk and seal the edge, and it will look as though the top fit snug as a bug against the wall. The cultured marble manufacturer/installers in my area taught me this trick several years ago. I don't use it all the time, but sometimes it is necessary, and if you are careful not to destroy the drywall, and just cut out the shape of the top edge, it will look VERY good. (The dust tears up my sinuses, so sometimes this is necessary to install like this)Just a thought...James DuHamel
