My sawzall has been hitching and halting recently. Almost like the elec is being interrupted for a split second. I’ve been using it regularly, without trouble, for almost 4 years.
Is this usually a prob with the brushes or something else? Have a call into my supplier to track down brushes, just in case, but wanted to get some more seasoned opinions.

Not sure what brand you have but on many the brushes are very easy to remove and check - it's pretty obvious when they are shot...
If it's a Milwaulkee with the Quik-Lok cord it might well be the cord- pick up a new cord or known good one and try it......... it's happened to me with both a Sawzall and drill. I'd leave the cord attached to the saw and drill when putting them in their case; eventually the cords would kink and a short/open would develop. Never happened to me with with the permanently attached cords, just with the Quik-Loks. Same symptoms .......... the tools would mysteriously cut out. Could be something else but the cord is a good place to start.
