I would like to upgrade the facade of my house with scallop shingles (or the look of scallop shingles) in the gable. I am looking for a durable product like James Hardy siding that is paintable and will last. Currently I have cedar clapboard, but I would like to upgrade the clapboard to Hardy board clapboard and then the scallop shingles in the gable.
All help is appreciated.

Go with real cedar shingles. If you get them pre-primed on all sides that will last a very long time.
I have some preprimed shingles that I need to bend slightly. I soaked them in water for 3 days and they did not absorb any water due to the primer. I had to cut 1 1/4" of the bottom of the shingle to expose bare wood before the shingles would absorb any water.
Can't beat the real thing.

I am in Ohio. Do you have a good source for pre-primed shingles with the scallop (fish scales) that you commonly see on the gable of turn of the century houses?
Not sure about scalloped, but these guys have shingles cut in different shapes. I bought mine squared cut and had them shipped. They dropped the pallet on my driveway. Quality of the Shingles is excellent, price is fair. Get the #1 grade
