Seems prices are down everywhere... Maybe, for now, the world slowdown of manufacturing doesn't have a market that has money to buy with... The only scrap metals that seem to have a market are gold and silver...and maybe copper.
Take a look at this site. It's always interesting...

Don't know about anything else, but the comex cu price is down to less than what I was getting for scrap a month ago.

I bought a 2x10 of 16 oz at ABC yesterday at 114.00$ , and I am pretty sure you are getting a better price, no?Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

About $86 per 2x10 last week. But, it'll get cheaper as it washes thru the system. ABC (and everyone else) has to sell what it has at a price based on what it paid for it. When they re-stock at the lower price, their price will drop. Plus, I seldom buy less than case lots which reduces the price some.
That's why I buy from about 5 places. One of the 5 usually has some cheaper cu than the the others.View Image
This was for the "farm"..wrapping those 3rd floor window sills that never got done. If it were for me I'd ask you, vs.ABC ( if thats OK)..
Also had a tree cream the carriage house gable out there, wiped out the drip edge and about 10' of the rake shingles..I guess I get to fix that... That place is cursed I think. LOL.
Oh yeah, a painter slid off the same roof, mangled the gutter ..I salvaged it mostly..Dales joints leak, but held.

what are you getting for your scrap clean copper?
what are you getting for your scrap clean copper?
Probaably $1.50 at best right now. Was getting about $2.60 a month ago.View Image
It's basically the same here in Maine now -- around $1.50
Yeah - I'm not taking any in 'til it goes back up. I was just guessing from the comex price.View Image
One GOOD thing about it.
DW has less rationale for me hauling off some of my "strategic reserves".

Only 20 cents per pound for scrap alum. on Long Island.
LOL, you hauling the printer's plates from FHB all the way down to LI, eh?;)

Here's my theory. Lets talk gas prices. The hedge funds drove the price of gas up making money all the way. All of it was done with leveraged money to make massive profits with little or know investment. The stock market tumbles and all of a sudden their collateral is way down so they have lost their leverage. They can no longer pump up the price of gas. It drops steadily and they can't stop it. I think this the same for all commodities.
OT: My wife was complaining about someone in the McCain campaign taking a golden parachute in the 12m dollar range. I said that's nothing and explained to her what the hedge funds were doing. Then I went to the internet and googled Hedgfund wages. The article explained that John Paulson of New York paid himself 10m dollars.....a day in 2007. Yes folks 3.7 Billion dollars in a year! 5 other hedgefund managers were paid over 1b also. This market is being driven by hedgefunds. The system is broken.
You get out of life what you put into it......minus taxes.

Recall Ed Thorp? He is (was?)* a first rate math genius. In the early 50's he first came up with the counting method for 'breaking the house' at blackjack. His used his math skill on a bigger game to concoct the 'hedge fund' approach - maybe slipping in a little of the Barnum 'sucker born every minute' adage? Wonder where he is now? from the below, apparently alive and doing well.....
Ya know, maybe he should have just used his math skill to help the "poor"; but they probably would not have paid attention????
* googled the above to see if he was dead or alive, http://www.futureblind.com/2008/03/ed-thorp-over-betting/
Ed Thorp is a hedge fund manager who ran Princton-Newport Partners and has returns of 20% over a 28-year period (ending 1998). In addition to his investing skills, Thorp is best known for his work at the Blackjack tables. In 1962, he authored the book Beat the Dealer, which explained the methods he used to win at Blackjack.
didn't just happen today. just like crude oil, fears of a WW recession or even slowdown are taking the top off all commodities prices
