Scratch&dent wndw and door source BOS

byrnsie | Posted in General Discussion on February 8, 2007 12:41pm

I wonder if anyone knows of a good source or site for scratch and dent windows. Perferably in the Boston area. They’d be for a new addition and need to be code energy windows. Possibly a builder who has surplus he’s looking to get rid of.

Wanted:    (6)  4′-0 X 7’6″ Double hung

                  (8)  4′-0 X 4′-0  DH

                   (1)  8′-0 X 8′-0  Glider Door

                   (1)  1′-0 X 3′-6″ Glider window

Mabe there’s a web site someone knows of- I’ve had no luck finding any.

I don't think the kind of guy who sells dented windows would have a website. This is the kind of item yuou have to get out and beat the bushes for.

If any Richy Riches on that island up there changed their mind about any good looking Marvin stuff or the like, this would be a good time to clean your barn out- I'm game for a ride to Maine to meet the ferry- bring it on!

Seriously- I know there's good stuff out there with you guys- I've picked up a triple 4'-0 x 7'-0 D/H  all mulled up Marvin with the dividers on the glass and all- saved a bundle!

Around here, Habitat for Humanity gets a lot of that stuff "But to be honest some folks here have been pushing the envelope quite a bit with their unnecessary use if swear words. They just put a character in to replace a letter. But everyone knows what they're saying." Sancho

          2. byrnsie | Feb 08, 2007 01:50am | #7

I'm not looking for free or anything you'd give away. I know I've kept expensive rejects around til I'd clean the garage again.

          3. Snort | Feb 08, 2007 04:08am | #12

Habitat's not looking to give them away either<G> They get donations from builders, lumberyards, renovators...mis-orders, overstocks, remodels...they have stores around here. Check Builders Supply up in Peabody. They have a ton of stuff.  If you know somebody with an account at Harvey Industries, they keep a section in each of their wharehouses for mismade windows.  All of them are new, but it is usually a manufacturing srew up.

Check the lumberyards for those mis-orders.

I have a ton of windows I got free, but you gotta make the hole to fit the window. The window cos don't bother to pick them up, what's the chance of selling them? Apparently not as good as the chance of storing them forever.

    Good luck trying it backwards.......

In Jacksonville, FL there is a commercial outfit ( I have no connection with them ) called Contractor's Best that sells items like that. e.g. stuff ordered but not returned, etc. They always have a lot of turnover. Ask around, there's bound to be someone that has filled that niche in your area.

If you are still looking and live near Fitchburg, Ma. there is a scratch and dent warehouse on Summer street. It goes by the name of Howlett Lumber. They sell windows, door and a number of other products you may need to do a job.  Good luck.

      Thanks 54,

I'm going to check it out.

heres a link to the habitat restores

    http://www.habitat.org/cd/env/restore.aspx

like any second hand place the key is to stop often , im in ours at least three times a week , good stuff sells quick

watch the classifieds for demolition sales I get a lot that way to ..

like somebody else mentioned the bargains are there you do have to work at it , not going to be quick and easy

    1. byrnsie | Feb 12, 2007 05:11pm | #21

It does take time- but I'm finding the bargains. I checked the habitat site but nothing until Maine and NJ from here but thanks for the suggestion.

Try ebay under business and industrial. I've often seen whole house window orders, or going out of business ordershttp://business.listings.ebay.com/Construction_Building-Materials-Supplies_W0QQfromZR4QQsacatZ41498QQsocmdZListingItemList

        1. byrnsie | Feb 13, 2007 03:49pm | #23

          Thanks Nater-

I tried a Marvin window search on ebay and got nothing so thanks for the link- I'm goin back to it now. Someone has some realy cool stainless steel french doors on there.
