Random orbit sander with a polishng pad...start with Meguires #7 Fine Cut Cleaner....polish for awhile then switch to #9 Swirl Remover...keep going.(all available at GOOD car parts places) Finish up with a coat of GEL GLOSS(Lowes, HD)
Is it just me or does everyone equate "Cultured" to mean "FAKE plastic imitation?" Give the old lady "cultured pearls" and she'll claim I'm a cheap bastard that won't put out for the real thing. I guess a "cultured cabinet saw" would be a Grizzly.
*Sounds like good advice. I think I might have to start with somefine grit sandpaper. 600 grit might work well.ThanksD.H.
*Do NOT use sandpaper of any kind on cultured marble.Use a polishing compound only, preferably a fine polishing compound. Go slow, and expect to take a while. I personally use a glass polishing compound, and an automotive style random orbital polisher/buffer for this type of job. Cultured marble has a very thin clear coat on its surface that gives the shine. If you go below this clear gel coat, you will ruin the cultured marble top. You are only trying to get rid of surface scratches, so any aggressive sanding or even aggressive polishing will cut through the clear gel coat and ruin the top. As for stains, it depends on the color of the stain, and where it is at. If the stain is below the clear gel coat, it will not come out. This type of stain is in the actual cultured marble material, and cannot be removed. If it is only in the clear gel coat, it can be polished out as well. James DuHamel
*Some of the scratch-filling car waxes (e.g. Color Cure, by Turtle Wax) can cover up these scratches; but, must be renewed regularly.
