I am planning a screen porch, 16’x16′, attached to a house. I was planning to use concrete piers 48″ deep and belled at the bottom for the foundation, then connect the headers (dbl 2×10) directly to the piers.
When examining the Simpson catalog to spec the connector, I was shocked to see that they don’t offer one for this situation. They offer many connectors for post to pier situations but the deck is too low to warrant using any posts.
I even called Simpson to see if I was missing something and they told me they didn’t offer what I was looking for but that I could use a painted beam seat (GLB). When I told them I was looking for something galv. as opposed to painted they said they could customize it for me. I said that sounded too expensive for a simple screen porch.
I could use a different connector in a way not authorized by Simpson but certainly affective (like an LCB/CB 44). I could customize one of their other anchors to be structurally sound; but that makes me liable. I could custom over build my own then send it for galv. treatment but that also sounds pricey and a lot of work and still makes me liable.
So what might the answer be? Am I indeed missing something here?

I would just use a CB44 and add a 1/2" spacer between your 2x10's. It's a good idea to provide for a little airflow between them anyway.
thanks mike, kinda what I was thinking too.
