Does anyone have an opinion on the scullery idea featured in the Nov/Dec issue? My initial reaction was “Why didn’t I think of that?”. My pet peeve is a sink in plain view (usually full of cereal bowls and sippy cups in my house). If you have a small island utility sink and a pot filler over the stove, why the need for a standard kitchen sink in a “public” space? Especially with that fabulous idea of pass-through cabinets? Can anyone enlighten me or change my mind?

I loved this idea. We have a large family and are adding on to our house. We have decided we do not want a diningroom, so we will eat in the kitchen. I loved the idea of not seeing the dishes - as that was one drawback of not having a diningroom. I am actually designing our scullery right now.
We will have a mudroom/pantry/scullery. The scullery will have a tripple bay commercial sink and two dishwashers. Both my husband and I have professional cooking backgrounds - and the oldest of our four children, who is 8, likes to cook too. Because I think cooking will be a family event in our house, I think making more room for the cooks, by removing the dirty dishes is a good idea too.
I will continue to post my findings as I get deeper into the design and construction. Let me know if anyone has any thoughts of considerations regarding the scullery.
