Does anyone just seal the horizontals, decking and top rails, on decks and not the railings, or is it mandatory to do the works?
Finished cleaning the deck (thanks again to all who responded to my questions about deck cleaners a few days ago) and it’s all mostly a light tan. Big improvement. Using CWF-UV clear for first time so don’t know how much different it will look, but I’m assuming it will be a clear contrast to unfinished.
Just being lazy and looking for an excuse to avoid the railings (I’m brushing), so thought I’d ask.
Thanks.

When I include staining in my bids, I do the works. Anything you don't stain/seal will discolor at a different rate than the stained wood so it will look better if you stain everything, even pt.
I've had good success with using a hand-pump sprayer to coat the balusters, then a pad to wick the excess off. If you go light on the initial spray, you might not have to get the pad on all four sides of every baluster. The stain won't be so saturated that it runs.
Good luck -
