I have a client who wants to seal his crawlspace (vapor barrier, foil/air insulation), but there’s a sump in the crawl. I’m thinking maybe the angle is to build a box around the sump pump, including a suitable access door for repair/replacement, then proceed as usual. Is this the best approach? Does anybody see any problems here?
Thanks!

Yep, that seems like the best approach, keeping it all accessible.
You still need access to the crawl. Just put a good cover over the sump to eliminate evaporation as a source of moisture into the crawl.
And be sure that the crawl is conditioned winter and summer with air from the HVAC system.
And do not run returns in the crawl unless they have been vigorously sealed to keep crawl air from circulating in the house.
Unless he seals the crawl to the standards of a boat, I suppose.
& Put more effort into exterior water controls to keep water away from the crawl: grading & long downspouts.
