Yesterday I opened a 5 gal can of Sikkens Cetol that has sat unopened for a few years. (Sikkens = the stuff that sickens you when you see the price.)
When I opened it, the foam gasket tore in a few places. Seeing as this stuff is liquid gold (over $50/gal), I’d like to reseal the can well. Anyone know a trick for this?
Thx.

New
empty can from paint store.
Gamma Seal Lid
Gamma plastics makes a screw on lid that you drive onto a 5-gallon bucket. They have o-rings and are air/water tight. They cost about 5 or 10 dollars. Search Amazon for "gamma lid", and several will come up.
Not sure you could ever get the ring part off to install it on another bucket or not. I use mine for water tight containers in boats.
Once you're confident you have a liquid-tight seal, turn the bucket upside-down and store it that way.

Every one of these ideas sound good.
Thanks guys.
Storing a paint
Put your Sikkens in several plastic bottles. It will stay in a good condition for a long time.
When you'll want to use your paint, cut out the neck of the bottle, mix the paint and use it.
When finishing painting, put the unused paint in a new bottle.

You mean like washed-out pop bottles?
Thx.
For keeping small amounts of paint (for "touch up"), use a Mason jar.
