When we purchased our house back in December the inspector highly recommended that we seal the brick to prolong the life of the mortar and the brick itself. I also need to tuck and point the chimney (which I’ve never done before but look forward to doing it).
I have several questions about this:
1) After figuring out the square footage of brick, are there larger cans of sealant available? If so what are the better brands?
2) I plan on pressure washing the outside, avoiding direct scrubbing so as not to damage the mortar. Since I’ve never pressure washed before is there a special chemical that will help get rid of mildew, moss and the like that I need to treat the house before washing?
3) If I tuck and point the chimney, how long should I wait before applying a sealant if any? (I’m not sure if a chimney recieves the same kind of sealant as the rest of the house.)
Any input would be most helpful.
Thanks
