I live in KY, and last year I installed some beautiful crown molding, and it looked amazing. I made my corner blocks, and all joints were cut on an overlapping 45. Then come winter and all of my joints started contracting. They look like I did not know how to use a tape measure, and that I was just wrong everywhere. When this summer came back so did my molding. Most of the joints went back to the way that they were intended, but a couple pushed apart slightly different than they were supposed to.
I do not mind using some type of sealant, or something to keep them together, but I am worried that they might look wrong in the opposite season.
Please help or give me some guidance.
Keith

Any more, I use butt joints on splices instead of doing the 45 deg. overlap. I add a plywood backer to the joint, and glue everything, including the endgrain joint, then nail it all together with 18 ga. brad. I'm in NJ with large humidity swings, and this works in my climate.
In your case, I'd get some Big Stretch caulk, and when the joints are at their widest, seal all the gaps up.
Shep,
What ho?
Sitting in Buffalo, Wyoming at a campground w/WiFi! And service too. Haven’t had that worth squat since entering the Rockies. Where’s great again when it comes to communication?
Myriad temp swings out here tween the mts and high desert and plains........33 this am at Yellowstone and mid 80’s in Buffalo at 6.
Having a good time, Joyce says hey.
Adios.
To the original poster, I’d start over, acclimate the trim, do it in the winter, prime all sides, glue all joints and solidly nail to studs and joists or lath catchers.
Hi, Calvin-
Sounds like you've become a nomad in retirement lol. We went to Yellowstone years ago- some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere. It did take some adjustment for the altitude- got out of breath pretty quickly.
If you ever come through NJ, give us a shout. Say hello to Joyce.
Joisey?
If we don’t have to go through cities to get there, why the heck not!
Now in southern Minn, headed home. Shoulders tight from fighting the lateral winds of Dakota........
Nomad?
I’ve driven more miles in the last 5 yrs than I did working the previous 15. Damn bunch of fun!
Calvin-
We're about 1/2 way between NYC and Philly, so no "big" city nearby.
Drive safe.
