Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if it is okay to secure a (all) rafter(s) to a purlin by drilling through the rafter and birdsmouth then use a lagbolt? I have looked at several code books and they only address drilling or notching the face of the rafter not the depth of it. I realize it will be a long drill (I have a jig in mind that should make it easier and accurate) but I want to have an exposed purlin and don’t want any hardware showing. (Its a cathedral ceiling) I’ll be checkin with Simpson Tie here soon. See what they have. But I like checkin in here.
Thanks.

It is allowed.
I don't know what your loads are. If your building is engineered, the engineer can spec the bolts for you.
