You must be running Chief Archyteckt; ACAD flat-out refused to draw that fer me. Said I'd have to download the fifth-dimension plug-in from the Autodesk website....

Now, I wanna see you build it.

A lot of framing I have seen looked an awful lot like that...

      Painters fixed it with caulking...

      Dino,

That's relatively easy to do with Sketchup (the free version even). I've built my own individual pieces of 'lumber' (2x stock avaialable locally as well as ply) & created a library for them that you can place as if you were stick building.  It's nice to be able to build somthing in the computer that I can't get right in my head before actually taking a pencil to the 2xs.

I haven't messed with the framing function of Chief yet (will soon enough though) so maybe it'll do the same???

      1. Jim_Allen | Jul 01, 2008 03:57pm | #11

Just his the "build", framing button. Then check the box of the items you want built. Everything drawn will be built instantly. The build operation takes all of 15 seconds, including checking the dialogue buttons. After you build it, you will be able to see the location of all the items you built; studs, joist, rafters, etc. If you want to look at it in 3d, you have to do a vector framing view. Click on that and you will see everything. You can also build a library of framing items but I'm not sure why you'd bother. Bob's next test date: 12/10/07

Some one had a sense of humor when they named it. And marketing didn't figure it out in time.

            Oh!!!!!

Sunday after the fest departure for Ian would be 19:50. Not a good time as he would more than likely not make the connection in T.O.

The Monday although early 9:20 am would make it easy for him to get through T.O. and home in one shot. Just means breaking camp early to get him to the airport in time. 6 am up and on the road before 6:30. Breakfast at McRat's on the go.

Actually that would be pretty easy to draw with full Autocad ( not LT). Just position the pieces as solids then you can even copy the thru pieces in place and subtract the copy from the bigger piece and it will look like the pieces are mortised.

    Yes, I have a question.

DW would like me to extend the kitchen by eliminating the hallway to the bath. Unfortunately, this would allow no access to the bath.

If I removed the original bathroom door and leaned it up against my unattached garage, would it still open into my bathroom?

Yes this will work if you have one of these.  The HD version will not guarantee you enter the correct room.<!---->View Image

I really haven't budgeted for for a non-linear dimension hopping door. I was hoping to use my original door.

What kind of power supply does that thing use anyway? Oh yeah, its powered by the screams of children. Count on a guy named Chucky to come up with that idea...

Just chew on a psilocybin mushroom before using the bathroom and you'll be all set.

      Oooh!  Dat's Funny!

Forrest - kinda cool if that would work - if doors related to where they went rather than where they were

    Gene:

I think you have found a new career path.  Designing things that draw out fine on paper but don't work.

Just resolved one such situation yesterday.  Designer's text said "15 risers".  Winders at the top and bottom.  He had only actually drawn (and budgeted enough space for) 14 risers.  Solution??   Sawsall!!!  Net result?  8 hrs work to resolve one little missing line.

  4. MisterT | Jul 01, 2008 03:58pm | #12

    gene, could you dimension that?
