septic sludge and easy do not compute.
Pop the lid and poke a stick till it bottoms out..pull it up REAL slow like,,ya might be able to see a demarcation zone.

Generally the tank should have two compartments. The first compartment is where 99% of the sludge should collect, and the second compartment should only have a small amount of sludge that didn't settle out fast enough.
When the first tank fills with sludge and begins to spill over into the second tank, it's almost too late -- sludge will get into the latterals very quickly after that. So checking the sludge level in the second compartment (which is where the hatch often is) is a bit like checking the barn door by seeing if the cow's gotten out.
