I was going to tile around our fireplace opening and was wondering if anyone new the distance the wood mantel had to be set back from the opening. I am not sure how far out the mantel will stick yet. Thanks Brian

Within 6" of the fireplace opening, all material must be non-combustible.
From 6" to 12", combustible materials may project forward 1/8" per 1" of distance from the fireplace opening.
Beyond 12" you can do anything.
