When you all are setting a tub, do you set it directly on top the subfloor, or if you’re doing tile floors (or anything that requires additional sheet goods on top the existing flooring), do you lay backer board through out the bathroom first, then set the tub on top that?
Got the plumbers in finally and this morning I realized that I hadn’t actually planned out the bathroom floors yet, and they’ll need to set the tub today or tomorrow.
Right now the subfloor is the old existing 3/4″ TG pine finish floor. I’m looking at doing either tile, or some kind of sheet flooring like Marmoleum or one of those recycled rubber products. I had originally planned to do tile over Ditra over the TG, but if I do a thin sheet good, I’d lay in new Advantech, to raise and stiffen the floor.
In the end, it’s only ~3/4″ I’m worrying about, so maybe one of you can tell me to STFU and not worry about it 🙂
Thanks,
Z

Mac,
What kind of tub? and into what? i.e. is it a drop-in with it's own surround, or are you setting it into a surround? Both done differently.

Sorry about that, it's an alcove? install (i.e. surrounded on three sides by walls). Z
Mac,
Will you be setting (dropping) it into a surround? or sliding it in?
WSJ
No, just pushing it into the alcove/nook and screwing the flanges to the studs. The tub is a Kohler Archer: http://www.us.kohler.com/onlinecatalog/detail.jsp?item=11875502I guess I'm just worried about the difference in the subfloor heights being 3/4"+flooring material height, or just +flooring material height.Z
Mac,
I'd not be all that concerned about flooring yet. that's quick to rectify after a test fit. I'd be more concerned about the actual plumbing. IMO, don't start this job on a Sunday afternoon.

Thanks, that's what I thought, but I never know. Maybe if they've not set the tub when I get home, I'll just lay a new subfloor. Can't hurt...Z
I have my plumber set the tubs/shower pans in Struto-lite, plaster of paris type stuff. Level it fast and your good to go.
