re…. my hottest days post….
i have some 80 or so 2″ steel fence posts to set for a heavy 8ft iron fence… the ground is very hard packed soil & small rock
my idea… is to drive them into the ground… i have a 2″ x 30″ auger… i thought i could predrill the laid out holes… and then with an attachment i’ll make for the task drive them in with my jackhammer… me standing in the basket thats made for the forks of my bobcat… kinda like pyle drive’n… i just don’t see the logic of dig’n/bore’n a hole and filling it with concrete… it’s still only as stable as the ground the hole is drilled into?
am i crazy? the post will be 30-36″ into hard ground… do i really need concrete?
oh yeah for effect i thought i’d use a 6×6″ steel post every 4th 5th or 6th post… these i’d set in concrete… placement depends on how many i can come up with and how they’d lay out… might use some 6″ x 12″ steel posts i have at the driveway gates and at the corners… to add some mass… some of the 6×6 i might run high & use them for light posts also…
mostly interested in will my pyle drive’n effort work?
thanks in advance for any input
