I have a ten foot section of pipe handrail to install alongside a sidewalk and am wondering about the best technique? I plan to set the three steel legs in concrete but I’m unsure how deep I need to go. I live in Madison, WI where we need to dig at least four feet to get below frost line. Is it necessary to set this handrail in a four foot column of concrete, or is some lesser depth such as two feet adequate for this situation? I’d appreciate hearing about others experiences with this type of project.
